The Central Drakensberg extends from Giants Castle and Injasuthi in the South to Cathedral Peak in the north. The Champagne valley is the popular destination in the Central berg, with a range of B&Bs, self catering and hotel destinations to choose from. Property development has continued, making the rural lifestyle accessible to many permanent residents.

The Central Drakensberg is further broken down to the following sub-regions:
   Cathedral Peak
   Champagne Valley
   Giant's Castle
   Winterton

Northern Drakensberg

The Northern Drakensberg offers a range of accommodation from Basic to Luxury. The mountains of the Northern Berg are spectacular, very sheer, rising 800 - 900 m above the valleys of the Drakensberg foothills. The Thukela Falls at 850m, are the second highest series of waterfalls in the world. The Amphitheatre is the most spectacular feature of the Drakensberg, and is therefore the most photographed part of the Drakensberg, appearing on the front cover of many tourist publications, and is used widely to market this country, and the province of KZN.

The Northern Drakensberg is further broken down into the following sub-regions:
   Bergville
