Mountain Splendour

Mountain Splendour is located in the spectacular Champagne Valley in the central region of the uKhahlamba Drakensberg National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a family-operated resort situated on an 80-hectare farm directly facing the 3000m peaks of Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak and Sterkhorn.
We pride ourselves in providing quality service and affordable family holidays in a safe, healthy and tranquil environment. The immediate area offers excellent outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, white-water rafting, horse riding, golf and bowls. Other local amenities include restaurants, supermarkets, an arts and crafts route and the Drakensberg Boys Choir School where regular concerts and festivals are held.

Sungubala Mountain Camp

Sungubala is a Bush Camp situated in the Northern Drakensberg. It is situated on 500ha of pristine wilderness directly below the peaks of Hlolela and Sungubala (7000ft), just north of Royal Natal National Park.
Surrounding the farm is approximately 30 000 to 40 000ha of conserved wilderness and mountain environment, to which we have access. The camp fills the space between the clutter of camping and the hum drum of even the simplest hotel or resort.

Montusi Mountain Lodge

Montusi Mountain Lodge offers genuine hospitality in the tranquility of one of the most beautiful settings in South Africa. Montusi is the Anglicised version of the Zulu name “Mountain in the Mist”.
Until the 1990′s it was a farm which had degenerated into a wattle wasteland (the wattle is an exotic tree, brought in from Australia, which destroys local vegetation and water supplies). When owner Anthony Carte wrote to the then Minister of Water Affairs, Kadar Asmal, asking for job assistance to preserve and protect this water catchment area, he never imagined that the nation wide Working for Water scheme would emerge.

Sandford Park Lodge

At the foothills of the uKhahlama – Drakensberg Mountains, World Heritage Site – a century old coach house nestles peacefully amid natural springs and streams. Dating back to 1850, Sandford Park, home for a British garrison sent to relieve the town of Ladysmith, causing the historical battle of Spioenkop, survived almost complete obliteration. Today, it has been restored to a place of complete relaxation and tranquility.
Between DBN and JHB, Sandford is in a perfect position, equidistant to the Royal National Park, Amphitheatre, Spioenkop Nature Reserve, Cathedral Peak and all major Battlefield sites.

The Homestead

The Village of Geluksburg was first conceived in 1908 but before it could be proclaimed the 1914-18 war forced its abandonment. The idea of a village was resurrected in the 1930′s but the outbreak of the 1939-45 war again saw its abandonment.
