Montusi Mountain Lodge

Montusi Mountain Lodge

Montusi Mountain Lodge offers genuine hospitality in the tranquility of one of the most beautiful settings in South Africa. Montusi is the Anglicised version of the Zulu name “Mountain in the Mist”.

Until the 1990′s it was a farm which had degenerated into a wattle wasteland (the wattle is an exotic tree, brought in from Australia, which destroys local vegetation and water supplies). When owner Anthony Carte wrote to the then Minister of Water Affairs, Kadar Asmal, asking for job assistance to preserve and protect this water catchment area, he never imagined that the nation wide Working for Water scheme would emerge.

Each individual thatched garden suite is cosy with a lounge, fireplace, tea/coffee station with little fridge for fresh milk and your drinks, a TV, and panoramic views of the Drakensberg’s Amphitheatre, a World Heritage Site. Bathrooms with separate bath and shower. Large Bath Sheets. Homemade chocolates. Quite addictable!

Montusi offers excellent hiking, horse riding, trout fishing and even a flying trapeze. Test your skills in your 4×4 or simply do nothing and soak up the incredible panoramic views.
