Bergvlei Cottage - Champagne Cottage

In Champagne Valley, in the Central Drakensberg region of KwaZulu Natal, you find Bergvlei Cottage. It is beautifully set in the Drakensberg foothills near Winterton and overlooks the Bell Park dam.

You will find Bergvlei Cottage to be a cosy and comfortable self-catering and/or Bed & Breakfast Cottage with a breathtaking view. It has a large main bedroom with bath, toilet and basin en-suite. A mezzanine floor has four single beds and is serviced by a second bathroom downstairs consisting of a shower, toilet and basin.

The mezzanine also has a closed-in balcony allowing a magnificent view over the dam to the impressive Cathkin range beyond. A lounge / dining room area leads onto a fully equipped kitchenette which has a stove, fridge, deep-freeze and microwave. A tiered nook in the garden has a braai for outdoor cooking.

Tastefully decorated en-suite double and twin rooms with private entrances from the lovely garden, are fully equipped with towels, personal soaps, tea and coffee facilities, fridges, and are serviced daily. Devon Barton B&B - Bergville

The Devon Barton B & B is located on a dairy farm approximately 5 km's outside of Bergville. It is a two bedroomed, one bathroomed cottage with a small verandah. We are about 35 mins from both the Northern and Central Berg Resorts.

We boast an incredible view of the Drakensberg as well as some beautiful walks that one can do on the farm. It is a wonderful place for families to come and unwind and just enjoy the simple pleasures of life - of just being close to nature.

Because of its location it is also a super place to have as a base when exploring the berg. We are close to some brilliant restaurants in the area.

We are situated in the Central Drakensberg approximately four hours from Johannesberg and two and a half hours from Durban, in the magnificent Champagne Valley where Cathkin Peak and Champagne mountains can be viewed.

Situated on the golf course we have six spacious freestanding units. We offer a honeymoon suite with a wooden deck, four-poster bed, log fire and spa bath. Our other standard units sleep from two to six people. All units have a full bathroom downstairs. Tee and coffee facilities available.

We offer you complimentary golf and free use of our swimming pool and tennis courts, plus a la carte restaurant and pub facilities in a casual, homely environment.

The picturesque tree-lined course with kikuyu fairways and cynodon greens has six holes over water hazards which include a dams and a river with a small waterfall and swing bridge for those a little more adventurous

Palmswift B&B - Winterton

PalmSwift B&B is in the picturesque village of Winterton, which is situated in the Central Drakensberg area. It is called the PalmSwift Guesthouse as there is an enormous palm at the entrance of the house in which these particular swifts nest. The first thing people comment on, on entering the property is the incredible number of trees and their amazing size. Although the garden does not have many flowering plants and shrubs at the moment, the greenery and shade provide an atmosphere of tranquility and the feeling of being out in the country

The house is large and has 3 bedrooms available at the moment. The Blue Room has 2 single beds, a small sitting room looking onto a section of the garden and its own bathroom with a bath, shower, toilet and basin. The Green Room has a queen bed and a small sitting room. It also has it s own outside entrance. The Peach room has 2 single beds and is spacious. The Green and Peach rooms share a bathroom that has a shower, toilet and basin. At present, none of the bedrooms have their own TV or radio. The rooms are colourful but simply and tastefully furnished.

Laundry can be done by arrangement. Braai ( barbeque ) facilities are available it you don t want to eat out, with crockery and cutlery available for your use. Or use the microwave or stove to warm a take-away. Being in the Central Drakensberg area we are perfectly situated for a variety of tourist sights, historical sights as well as sporting facilities. Spionkop Nature reserve and Dam, the Boer War Battlefields, museums, excellent golf courses, river rafting, off road karting, quad biking, hiking and many other facilities are all within 15 to 30 minutes from our guesthouse. There are also many other interesting drives and sights further away that provide interesting day-outings. These include sights and activities in the Northern Drakensberg and the Midlands of KwaZulu Natal.

The Berg House - Northern Drakensberg

The Berg House is situated 3 hours from Johannesburg and Durban. These selfcatering and B&B cottages are located on the Oliviershoek Pass, overlooking the "Amphitheatre", high escarpment and "Little Drakensberg". Our property is situated on 1600 acre's with 7km's of river frontage.

The cottages are comfortable, fully equipped, with open plan lounge/kitchen areas, 2 bathrooms in each, 4 bedrooms per unit, a logfire place in each with wood provided. These cottages are built from sandstone and thatch gathered from the property. Linen is provided on the bed. The cottages are serviced daily.

Numerous activities on site such as horseriding from 1..3 hours, hiking, 4x4 trails, mountain biking, birding, trout and yellowfish in dams and river, full moon night rides, golf at 2 courses nearby, houseboat rides, Royal Natal National park, Tugela Vaal Hydro electric Power Station.

The Swallow's Nest - Winterton

The Swallow's Nest is an attractive Guest House with a garden cottage set in landscaped gardens on the outskirts of Winterton village opposite the Country Club.

The Swallow's Nest offers close proximity to the Central and Northern Drakensberg resorts.

Durban is a 2½ hour drive and Johannesburg 3½ hours It is an an ideal halfway stop when travelling to or from Durban.

Swallows Nest is fifteen minutes away from Spioenkop Dam, with its nature reserve featuring many different bird species and game, horse riding and water sports.

Tours can be arranged to the Tugela/Vaal Hydro Electric scheme on the Tugela River.

During day trips to the berg resorts, guests may take in the breathtaking scenery, hike in the mountains, make use of the three golf courses in the area, or cast for trout in the rivers or at the Cathedral Peak Trout Hatchery.

Tower of Pizza has its origin in an unused grain silo, which with the addition of a traditional wood burning pizza oven became a pizzeria. This quickly became a popular meeting place for both the local people and tourists and has grown into a landmark in the area. It is even used as a halfway meeting point for people travelling between Durban and Johannesburg.
